Anasthesia Department Gargash

Anesthesiologists in Dubai

The Department of Anaesthesia at Gargash Hospital aims to provide the best anaesthetic care in a patient-friendly environment. Our highly qualified team of Physicians and Nurses work round the clock to deliver safe and effective services. We uncover the needs of every individual patient and then strive to fulfil those meticulously.

We provide the following services:

  • Pre-operative assessment and testing.
  • Delivering of local, regional and general anaesthesia.
  • Post-operation care, including pain management.
  • Sedation for procedures in and out of theatre suites. (e.g., MRI, IVF)
  • Labour analgesia and anaesthesia.
  • Emergency care, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
  • We will soon be offering efficient chronic pain management as well.

Pre-operative Assessment and Testing

Under Pre-operative Assessment and testing, we undertake a series of steps before the operation. This includes focused discussions regarding pain relief, with the patient’s views being taken into consideration in order to deliver patient-centred care. Such an approach ensures that all aspects of care related to anaesthesia are looked into and that a detailed plan is drafted for the smoothest course of treatment. We also run a high-risk Anaesthesia clinic that addresses the needs of patients who have multiple illnesses which require input from different specialists.

These are the services we provide:

  • History taking and examination of outpatients
  • Blood investigations
  • Other investigations as required (e.g., ECG, chest X-ray)
  • Detailed plan for pain relief
  • Instructions regarding care before and after the operation
  • Referral to other specialists, if needed

Administration of Anaesthesia

At Gargash Hospital, our Anaesthetic team provides comprehensive services that include local anaesthesia (numbing a particular part of the body), regional anaesthesia (numbing a bigger area, like the lower half of a body), and general anaesthesia (putting patients to sleep for the duration of an operation). Gargash Hospital is equipped with world-class instruments to deliver these services. We have three operation theatres, as well as a Pre-Anaesthesia and a Post-Anaesthesia care unit (PACU). We also have a theatre facility dedicated to IVF.

We provide the following services:

We provide the following services:

  • Sedation in the IVF centre

Pain Management

We at Gargash Hospital know that it is a pivotal part of Anaesthetic services to draft and implement a pain management plan. It is vital that the patient’s pain is controlled in order to reduce the body’s stress response. Our experienced Anaesthetic team works 24/7 to deliver this essential care.

We follow internationally recognised policies that have a strong evidence base. Focussed on patient-led care, Gargash Hospital has the latest equipment to help you take control of your pain with the assistance of our trained staff. This technique is called patient-controlled analgesia. It minimises the chances of overdosing, resulting in better patient care.

We also give comprehensive advice for pain relief at home, as we believe in helping your life flourish, even after your discharge from the hospital.

The techniques we use include:

  • Oral medication
  • Injections
  • Spinal analgesia
  • Epidural analgesia
  • Nerve blocks
  • Skin application of medication
  • Patient controlled analgesia (PCA)

Labor Analgesia and Anaesthesia

At Gargash Hospital, we understand that the birth of a child is one of the most joyous moments in your life as a parent. Our Anaesthetic team exerts every effort to make this journey as pain-free as possible. We offer various pain-defeating modalities, from oral tablets to epidural anaesthesia used in painless deliveries. This wide range helps us cater to the needs of individual patients, who have varied birth plans and different needs.

Knowing that a patient needs her family the most during this period, we allow a family member to accompany her for a Caesarean section in the operation theatre. The pain relief during and after the procedure is managed in such a way that the patient remains comfortable throughout her to stay in the hospital and at home.

We also run a high-risk obstetrics Anaesthesia clinic that helps address concerns of pregnant women who might have a serious illness or a suboptimal obstetrics anaesthesia experience in the past. Our team prioritises sorting all the issues in time, so our patients can experience a path with better care.

The services we offer are:

  • Oral analgesia
  • Strong pain killer injections (e.g., Pethidine)
  • Pain relief by gas inhalation (Entonox)
  • Epidural anaesthesia and analgesia
  • Spinal anaesthesia
  • Patient controlled analgesia (PCA)
  • TAP block

Emergency Care

Gargash Hospital’s Anaesthetic team provides emergency care day and night. We are part of a wider team that includes surgical and medical specialists who work tirelessly to ensure patient safety.

We place a lot of emphasis on preventing an emergency and providing timely care, so the need for emergency services is limited. But in cases where an emergency situation is inevitable, we are prepared to respond to a patient’s needs in a timely fashion. We regularly conduct drills and attend courses and conferences to stay up to date with the latest knowledge and advancements.

We provide the following services:

  • Rapid response team
  • Emergency anaesthesia care in the OT suite
  • Emergency anaesthesia care outside OT suite
  • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation
